The service also provides treatment for Parkinsons Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrigs Disease), Huntingtons Disease, myasthenia gravis, and epilepsy. Major research facilities include one of five of the nations amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) clinics funded by the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA); one of three centers in the nation established for the study and treatment of Alzheimers disease; one of two centers in the nation to receive NIH funding for neonatal seizures; and one of eight centers to receive NIH funding for epilepsy research.
